About Chiropractic
What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a healthcare discipline, which emphasizes the inherent recuperative ability of the body to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery. Chiropractic focuses on the relationship of structure and function and how that relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health.
Although most people think of neck and back pain when they hear the word "Chiropractic", Chiropractic is really about helping people live healthier, fuller lives - naturally. Our nervous system (brain and nerves) controls and coordinates everything that occurs in our body. The brain communicates with the body via the spinal cord and nerves. A subluxation is a misalignment that causes interference in the flow of information to and from the brain. Chiropractic adjustments remove subluxations and interference and allow the body to function as designed.
Chiropractic For Children:
As a parent, you should take a proactive approach in keeping your children healthy. It is critical to understand that your child's brain and nervous system control and coordinate every function in their body. Thus, you want to ensure that your child's nervous system is developing and functioning properly. All children, from birth onward, should be checked on a regular basis to determine whether there are postural alterations or subluxations, which can interfere with your child's development and function.
Drs. Joe and Cheryl Silva are members of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association and have been specially trained in the adjusting of infants and children.
Chiropractic can make your pregnancy more comfortable. Studies have shown that women are able to carry and deliver children with more comfort when receiving chiropractic care during pregnancy. Back pain, which is a common symptom in pregnancy, may indicate the presence of spinal subluxations. Correcting these subluxations can ensure that both mother-to-be and the unborn child have the best opportunity to have a healthy pregnancy and birth.
Drs. Joe and Cheryl have been trained in the adjusting of pregnant mothers and certified in The Webster Technique for breech babies by the I.C.P.A.
The Webster Technique Defined:
Sacral misalignment causes the tightening and torsion of specific pelvic muscles and ligaments. It is these tense muscles and ligaments and their constraining effect on the uterus which prevents the baby from comfortably assuming the best possible position for birth. The Webster Technique is defined as a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment that reduces interference to the nervous system and facilitates biomechanical balance in the pelvic structures, muscles and ligaments. This has been shown to reduce the effects of intrauterine constraint, allowing the baby to get into the best possible position for birth.
